Pardon me for repeating one of the most over used phrases in the history of words, but when they said a picture is worth a thousand words, were they talking about stock photos too? If the best selling stock images for the search term "woman" is any indicator then stock images speak volumes for the way women have been perceived in media in the past decade.

Since 2007, we've seen a dramatic shift away from the Sexy Woman - images of half naked models - to the Gritty Woman or “images of women literally having dirt on them and not caring, of being powerful and strong," according to Pam Grossman, a person who is paid to pay attention to that sort of thing aka the director of visual trends at Getty Images.
